Blooming Marvellous!

We enjoyed the delights of florist Jane Lampe of Floreat Floral at last weekend's Jumbled Floral Styling Workshop. Jane worked her magic by showing us the ease and simplicity of flower arranging that is quite simple and nowhere near contrived.

By following a few simple design tips, we were all thrilled to see how ordinary blooms from the garden can be turned into stunning arrangements (even if we do say so ourselves!)

The favourite blossoms included the humble rosemary bush, along with crab apple branches and simple daisies. It seems that you don't have to spend a fortune to end up with a florist's touch in your home.

The food was delicious, the champagne and coffees delightful, but the warmest feedback came in terms of the lovely company we shared. Yes, it's true - girls really do love an excuse to get together.

The feedback from our guests included "I really enjoyed the workshop, especially the relaxed atmosphere and the delicious food and bubbles - such a great afternoon."

Wonder Walls!

Geraldine James, says in her book Creative Display, "If you love something enough, show the world how much by displaying it for all the world to see."  We are big believers in mixing textures and materials on walls and love spaces that show the personality of their creator. It's great if you are a well travelled person and have carefully selected items from around the world that tell a story. It is just as wonderful if you see something cute at your local shops and love it enough to add to your personal collection.

The key is to love your stuff. Wonder Walls by Sarah Bagnerakes makes sence of the trend, "Whatever your taste, it's about celebrating the unusual, the beautiful, the eccentric, and the simple."  We love rugs on walls, vintage dresses, retro prints and original abtracts. Artwork that grabs your eye and you feel continually compelled to look at is what you should look for. And then complement with bits and pieces from your home. Kids artwork, a favourite tea towel, or your wedding veil. These are all things that will make your walls gorgeous and personal.

Here are some fabulous walls we have found online and think they are perfect for inspiring us all to get creative with our decorating.

Stop it! I'm Floored!

Have you ever looked at a room in your house and wondered why its not working? Quite often we get the rustic furniture, vintage posters, colourful cushions and beautiful trinkets and still the "wow" factor is missing. We may have the secret and it is the way you dress your floors! Sometimes it can be as simple as a black and white rug to ground your things, or a colourful woolen rug to bring it all together. A natural woven rug can give you that organic feel or a rectangular, or cicular rug can shape your things perfectly.

We have been inspired by some pics we found online and on interior design blogs and honestly, its not hard to have that "you complete me" moment in your house. Check them out below.

Modern Retro

Everywhere you look someone is re-inventing a retro classic, yet giving it that modern flavour. We love seeing the 70's retro parker inspired sofas emerging and the vintage buffets making a well deserved comeback. It is easy to upcycle an old worn out chair with some fresh cushions, or give that old chiswell sideboard hiding in your parents garage a modern spin with the right artwork and vingnettes diplayed on top.

We have been really inspired lately with this retro inspired look and it has us shouting bring back the teak!! Check out some of our favourite looks below.

On the left, the painted wall and light artwork really modernises this retro sideboard. And on the right, this is an excellent example of a retro lounge modernised bycushions, rugs and a light bright vignette of blooms

Wow! Acid yellow needs little else and we love collection of framed prints and books resting on this retro sideboard.

Dress up your retro lounges with bright artworks and cushions. We have a great selection of framed retro posters online and in store that can help you achieve the look like the Sainte-Maxime print.

Our new range of retro inspired sofas and armchairs are so comfy so classy!

Fantastic Faux Flowers

We love faux flowers. They are bright, colourful and oh so easy to manage! The Jumbled florist has opened (well sort of) and it looks more like Spring for us than Autumn.
We are inspired by Abigail Ahern and her interiors when it comes to faux flowers. She makes it look effortless and fresh.. And it lasts!

Our range of flowers includes Orchids, Magnolias, Roses, Dahlia's and more. We love to mix and match - you can never go wrong! Shop flowers here.

Tips from Abigail Ahern - Part 2 of 3

Abigail provided us with so many wonderful tips we have divided this post into three sections. Take a look at our first part of tips here.

Following on... colour, pattern and texture can add depth to a space as does herbs and spices to cooking. It can take a space from bland to brilliant.

Colour:  Did you realise that paint and colour is the cheapest, most transformative tool to use in an interior? Neutrals can become cool when an odd/crazy colour, like neon pink, is added.

Pattern:  Abigail suggests to mix patterns in a similar colour pallet and your room will be elevated to another level.  Rugs with some sort of pattern are really important. We suggest our Dash & Albert rugs which are available online here.

Texture:  You can’t overdo. The more you mix the more exciting!

Need some pieces.. We are thinking our Dash & Albert rugs, the zig zag misty quilt cover from Kip & Co, the Dora cushion and Barton was the Master collage by Little Land of Pia which are all available online.

L to R:
Bedroom with a neon pink touch, living space with bright yellow doors, one of Abigail's rooms, a kitchen space with floral wall paper, Mia rug from Dash & Albert
