Interview with Canvas Home

‘With a blank canvas, textiles can transform any setting into a fresh, new space.’
Canvas Home evolved from our love of creating and designing beautiful bespoke collections while travelling the globe for inspiration. Collaborating with Indian artisans, our collections are rich with a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues, stunning textures, hand block printing and appliqué.

We hear you recently took a trip to India for work, what would your day look like in India?

Up early and eat the most delicious ‘masala dosa’ for breakfast. It is an Indian breakfast with paper thin crispy crepes with spicy potato filling. It really wakes you up! Spend time with suppliers designing ranges including fabrics, colour palette and block printed patterns. The Indians are very hospitable and there is always ‘Chai’ on offer to keep you going. We try and stop for lunch and love visiting ‘Latitude’ the café on top of Good Earth in the Khan Market in Dehli. It is a must every trip. Salty lime sodas are a favorite! Off to another supplier - taking photos out of the taxi as I go. Camels on roads, monkeys on power lines are all in a days work. Return to the hotel and enjoy a well deserved Gin and Tonic or two.

Shopping in India can be fabulous - what was your best buy?

A beautiful hand stitched vintage wall hanging that is massive and hangs on the wall at home – it was so heavy I had to ship it back with stock.

Favourite Curry?

Eating a ‘thalis’ (which is a selection of all different tastings) by candlelight on a rooftop Haveli in Jaipur

Finish this sentence, 'a trip to India is not complete without...'

Getting lost in the Kinari Bazaar, literally the ‘trimmings and trinkets’ market in Old Delhi.

Where do you find inspiration?

All around from trips in Taxi's to the incredibly talented people we work with.

Most memorable car trip?

Driving home down a dirt road from dinner near the Amber Fort in Jaipur, we literally came across an elephant coming home from work at the fort. His master stopped and he was poking his trunk in the car windows and we were able to get out and meet him!

Favourite colours from the trip?

The Saris the women wear are incredibly beautiful and the colours always inspiring. Hot Pinks, Orange, Yellows and even the Neon colours are on trend there!
