Original artwork by Amanda Hinkelmann
Amanda is a proud Wiradjuri woman from Wagga Wagga
I began painting this the day that Afghanistan was taken by the Taliban, after almost 20 years.
Running down the sides of the painting are white dots representing the freedoms that the Afghan women had that will soon be taken away and be no more. In the centre stands a female, with small white dots slowly enveloping her face- illustrating the burqa which will no doubt be expected for all women again.
At this moment, women all around the world are joined together with an overwhelming feeling of helplessness. Our collective empathy, care, and sadness goes out to our sisters in Afghanistan.
